If a driver’s worth is measured by the value of one of his used race cars, then Lewis Hamilton slots in front of Michael Schumacher but remains a world away from Juan Manuel Fangio. A Mercedes F1 car raced by Hamilton in 2013 is expected to fetch up to PS10 million (US$15.8 million) when it is auctioned at RM Sotheby’s in Las Vegas ahead of the city’s Formula 1 Grand Prix later this month.
A Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 W04 driven by Hamilton at 14 of the series’ 19 events in 2013, including his first win for the German team, the Hungarian Grand Prix, is estimated to fetch up to $10 million when it’s sold. This particular car marked the end of Formula One’s 2.4-liter V8 era and the start of a spell of dominance for Mercedes-AMG and Hamilton.
