Kohl for eyes is a staple in any makeup bag and a must have for every woman who loves to add drama to their eye make up. It can be used as an eyeliner or to smudge for a softer look. It is available in various shades to suit your needs. This kohl has an intense and impactful effect, so apply sparingly.
Kohl is a traditional cosmetic for lining the eyes that has been in use since ancient times in Egypt, India, Central Asia and Horn of Africa. It was worn by Cleopatra, the Pharaohs and even the nomadic Toureg and Bedouin people. Its usage was largely due to the belief that it protects against diseases of the eyes, scars and discolourations.
Traditionally, kohl was made by grinding stibnite (a natural mineral source of antimony), but present day artisanal companies have been making their own kohls with ingredients derived from nature. For example, the kohl made by Saffron & Rose is painstakingly handmade with frankincense gum, olive oil, dates and lavender, and comes in a traditional casing which can be refilled, so it is eco-friendly too!
A kohl is applied by drawing a line along the waterline and the inside of the lower lid with a stick-like applicator, varying its shape, size and colour according to the whim or fashion. In the 19th century, German entrepreneur Eugene Rimmel invented the modern eyeliner pencil, which is a much more precise tool for outlining the eyes than powders or creams. However, kohl remains the most common eyeliner for both everyday wear and for special occasions in South Asia and Pakistan.Kohl for eyes
